Overview
The Moon lake in the hills may not be as high as the moon, but sitting pretty at
a height of 4300m.The crescent shaped Chandrataal located in the Lahul
region of Himachal Pradesh.The nearest town is Manali,about 140 km away.
The road to Lahul – Spiti has more stone and water than tar. Chandrataal is a
detor from Batal. There are three dhabas at Batal .But the oldest one is
Chandra dhaba. It is run by a legendary couple known as Chacha – Chachi
,who’ve helped countless souls. Chandrataal is a popular destination for
trekkers and campers. The Chandrataal keeps changing its color throughout
the day. The mountain peakes with snowcaps and slopes around the valley
rise up 3000 m to 6300 m .Chandrataal is an important site for the migratory
birds .
